HUMANS OF RCK: Margaret

Welcome Back Margaret!

Margaret is a friendly face to most volunteers who've passed through our kitchen and has racked up an incredible 17 months of volunteering since her first visit in 2016. She's tirelessly dedicated, inspiring and a true RCK legend - the kitchen wouldn't be the same without her! Her positive attitude has got us through some of our toughest times this year, and we're so pleased she's rolling up her sleeves once again for another stint at the stoves!

"Margaret is one of the people we can count on to remind us of the little things, the important things, things that can sometimes be overlooked. Margaret's attention to detail is something that we have all benefited from and has made the kitchen such a better place And on top of all that she is a proper giggle. We Love that woman"

Fundraise for RCK

Setting up a fundraiser for RCK couldn't be easier! Whether you're running an ultra-marathon like Rhys or holding a virtual coffee-morning,

Just Giving allows you to completely personalise your page, sends money to us directly and makes it easy to reply to your donors!

We're endlessly grateful to all of our fundraisers and would like to say a massive thank you to Rhys for his effort this summer (and for answering our questions!).

We've made a simple guide to help with the process so why not join him and become an RCK fundraising hero?

Help needed to fill our new kitchen!

RCK are delighted to announce that the London Outreach programme has been given an amazing kitchen In Kentish Town. We are super excited to be involved in a local initiative bringing so many amazing organisations together. Joining the dots.

Up until now we've been cooking in volunteer's kitchens, but with this new space we will be able to cook more efficiently and in turn allow us to add additional days to our service!

As you can see, the kitchen is a little bare, so if you can help with anything in the list below: much appreciated

Migrate Art on sale at Christie's in aid of RCK

Our long-time supporters Migrate have another powerful art exhibition to raise funds for our work! Renowned artists have created striking pieces using paint made with ash from Iraq's burned crop fields.

The pieces will be open to view from the 10th at Christie's! Migrate Art's Simon Butler has worked tirelessly to make this happen - and we can't say thank you enough!

Thank you, Simon and the team.

Fresh Vegetables

Fresh vegetables make up the crux of every dish we serve - from leafy greens brightening up our salads to roasted pumpkin sweetening our curries. As we move towards winter and continue to struggle with the impact of COVID-19 - strengthening the immune systems of displaced people in Calais has never been so important! Veg is vital for the nutritional balance of our food and as we strive to provide hearty, healthy and delicious meals each day, we can go through €5,000 worth of vegetables a week!

While some is donated, we buy the majority in our weekly veg order - always opting for seasonal and at the best price we can find.

Please DONATE and help us continue serving all the vital fibre, vitamins and nutrients!

HUMANS OF RCK: Ellen

Ellen has been one of RCK's most dedicated, open and caring volunteers and recently stepped up to the role of Ground Manager!

"It's been amazing to have watched her grow from her first visit to now" - Janie Mac, RCK Cofounder.

Ellen: "I first joined RCK in October 2016 on the off-chance. I'd signed up to volunteer with Help Refugees and they sent me to the kitchen!

Right now Covid is having a huge impact on our operations capacity. We're running low on both volunteers and donations which has meant that responding to the developing need here has been really challenging.

However, what I think RCK achieves is a practical everyday solution for displaced people (in a political shitshow). Whilst people are trying to solve the overarching 'Migrant Crisis' or Refugee Crisis', people need hot food in Calais today."

DONATE to help us keep getting food out to people who need it through the evictions

THANK YOU for all of your support throughout this difficult time. We are indebted to you all!
