About Refugee Community Kitchen

​Refugee Community Kitchen provides healthy food to communities in Northern France and on the streets of the UK. In France we work across different sites in Calais and Grand Synthe, distributing by van with a team of around 6 volunteers led by long term volunteers.

In the UK we serve food on the streets of London, the food is created in a full time hub kitchen and other community kitchens. Our aim is to create a dignified service offering a variety of nutritious culturally familiar food, tea, water & condiments to people in need.

Role: Social Media Communications and Engagement Coordinator

Reporting to: Senior Management Team

Team structure: Part of 4 people Coordination Team 

Contract Length: Minimum 12 Months 

Start date: 15 /07/ 2025 

> Role Objective:

This role is key to building a compassionate, informed, and action-driven online community and to develop and deliver engaging social media content that supports Refugee Community Kitchen’s mission by:

  • Recruiting volunteers to support our work in Calais and London;

  • Encouraging donations by highlighting the impact of our meals and community support;

  • Supporting supporters fundraisers 

  • ⁠Spreading awareness of RCK’s work and the ongoing humanitarian situation faced by displaced people on the ground.

> Structure:

  • The role will be commenced after a 3-4- week training/ induction or handover from previous coordinator

  • In Calais the SM coordinator will take one un-rotered day to work from home

  • The potential coordinator needs to be aware that the role works alongside the kitchen rota needs in Calais 

  • If the applicant based in London, they should be able to travel to visits Calais regularly

> What we are looking for:

> Requirements:

  • To be available to travel to Calais, France & London if working remotely

  • Competent & knowledgeable in using social media platforms.

> Essential:

  • Be sympathetic to the plight of displaced and homeless people

  • Good use of English language

  • Previous experience in social media strategy, content creation and platform

  • A good understanding of raising money through social media

  • Has knowledge or experience in content creation including video editing

> Desirable

  • Some experience in marketing 

  • Some knowledge & passion for world food 

  • Experience of volunteering with displaced or homeless people or in a food charity

  • Has minimum 6 months of experience working with in the field or 3 months with RCK

  • French language is desirable

  • Some knowledge and/or passion for world food
